B/W Portraits

Portrait

Portraiture is one of the hardest genres. It may look like it comes down to photographing a person — but what does it really mean to photograph a person?

Portrait photography is a constant dialogue, an exchange of energy and emotion between subject and photographer that is then distilled into the final frame.

In my portraits I’m not looking for the person’s soul; I don’t believe in the superpower of fully understanding someone in a session of a few hours, or even a few minutes.

My portraits deal with a single aspect of the person — the one trait that struck me about someone I am first getting to know, then observing, and only in the end photographing.
